Installation of motion sensors with immunity to triggering on pets

Security system users who live with pets often ask themselves whether the security system is compatible with the presence of pets in the building before purchasing and installing a security system to protect their home. The most frequent doubts, in fact, concern false alarm activations, which are caused by the movements of animals in the object under protection.

There are two options for the development of events that are worth considering: 1) If the animal, both at night and in the absence of owners, is limited to a certain place, for example, a room in the house, it is simply not worth installing volumetric sensors inside this room, since such devices signal control pane about the movements that occur in the zone that is under the control of the sensors. 2) if instead the animal moves freely inside the house, then you can choose sensors with Pet immune technology, compatible with the presence of small pets, since they are able to differentiate the mass and volume of the human body from small animals (with a maximum weight of 30 kg).

In the first case, it is best to choose a room that will be intended only for animals: this room should be in front of the volume sensors, but at the same time it can still be controlled by installing magnetic opening contacts on the doors and windows (these devices send a signal to the control panel an alarm which, in turn, triggers an alarm when they detect an unwanted opening of a door or window) to allow animals to move freely without the risk of false alarms.

In the second case, the best choice would be to install sensors with Pet Immune technology: these small devices ignore the movements of animals, which means that, thanks to a special calibration, they are able to recognize, and therefore not miss, the presence of four-legged animals that are smaller compared to the larger human body. This type of innovative technology allows the sensor to capture body movement using certain parameters related to body volume and mass. Therefore, if the dog’s weight does not exceed 30 kg, it will have a body weight that will allow the sensor not to activate in such a situation, so it will not send any signals to the alarm control panel.

Of course, in this context, choosing the right location of animal-immune motion detectors in the rooms of the house is important during the installation phase. The owner can choose whether to equip the entire house with pet-immune sensors or to install them only to protect certain rooms, i.e. those where animals are usually present, to avoid the unnecessary purchase of an irrelevant number of sensors and, as a result, save money.
